Feijoas have always been one of my favourite fruits, and this artwork brings back some very happy childhood memories.
I remember picking ripe feijoas straight from the tree and enjoying the soft, sweet fruit inside. There is something so familiar about their green skin, creamy centre and distinctive shape, so they felt like a perfect subject for a Wattle Fern Studio paint-by-numbers design.
I have only just started colouring this one, so this post is a little different — you can follow along as the artwork gradually comes to life.
Inspired by childhood memories
Some artworks begin with a place, a flower or an animal. This one started with a memory.
Feijoas instantly remind me of growing up in New Zealand and the simple joy of picking fruit straight from the tree. That personal connection is what made me want to turn them into a digital paint-by-numbers artwork. The fresh greens, soft cream tones and tiny details inside the fruit also make this a really satisfying piece to colour.
Starting the colouring process
This video shows the genuine Wattle Fern Studio Feijoa file being coloured in Procreate. I am working through the numbered sections using the included colour palette, gradually building the artwork one area at a time.
Because I have only just started this piece, you will be able to see the artwork evolve as I continue colouring it.
Follow along as it comes to life
One of the things I enjoy most about digital paint by numbers is watching a simple numbered canvas slowly transform into a finished artwork. I will continue sharing the Feijoa colouring process as I work through the remaining colours, so follow along to see how the finished piece turns out.
Colour the Feijoa yourself
If feijoas bring back memories for you too, or you simply love their wonderfully distinctive look, you can colour the same artwork yourself in Procreate.
