When purchasing a digital paint-by-numbers kit, it can be difficult to know exactly what the colouring experience will be like from a finished product image alone. That is why I recorded myself completing the Southern Reef colouring file from beginning to end in Procreate.

The video below shows the actual digital colouring file being used - not simply a finished artwork, animation or product mock-up. You can watch each numbered section gradually fill with colour until the complete Southern Reef scene is revealed.

A real digital colouring experience

Southern Reef was created to offer a relaxing and approachable way to enjoy digital art. The artwork features a vibrant underwater world with sea turtles, rays, colourful coral and brilliant turquoise water.

Each section of the artwork is numbered and matched to its corresponding colour, allowing you to work through the picture one area at a time. You do not need to know how to draw or paint. The creative work has already been prepared, so you can simply follow the guide and enjoy watching the image come together.

The video has been shortened into a 55-second time-lapse, but it captures the complete colouring process - from the first coloured section to the finished artwork.

Why I share the colouring process

Wattle Fern Studio products are designed to be used, not simply admired as finished images. Showing the full colouring process gives you a clearer idea of what you will receive and helps demonstrate that the files are functional digital paint-by-numbers activities.

I also personally test the colouring experience so I can check that the numbered areas, colour palette and completed artwork work together as intended.
